Well Veterans Day has come and gone and so have the free meals, discounts etc. although Golden Corral recognizes veterans tomorrow. Every year I sit and reflect on my time in the military. Great times, hard work, teamwork, friendships, commitment the list goes on. I served in the United States Marine Corp during Desert Storm. It was rough for me in the military at that time professionally and personally. Three months earlier I gave birth to my daughter who was born three months premature weighing 1 lb 13 oz and couldn’t breathe on her own. She was required to stay in the hospital until she gained weight and was able to breathe on her own which took approximately three months. My unit got word that we were to participate in Operation Desert Storm, the same day my daughter was finally being released from the hospital. Now of course, I did not want to leave my baby who was now 3 lbs. 6 oz but I had a commitment to the military. I participated in Desert Storm with the help of family members but it was difficult.
Veterans sacrifice alot personally to serve their country. I am thankful for the discounts, free meals, etc but I get slightly aggravated by having to eat off of a select menu, or limited items, better yet only being served during certain hours or being told you can only order items on the left side of the menu. To some this may be unimportant or petty. What’s up with all the restrictions? I don’t feel there should be any restrictions on Veterans Day for the men and women who have served this country. So much is sacrificed for them to serve. They give up time with loved ones, schooling they may have been in the process of completing, and even missing out on the birth of a lil’ one. I’m talking about one full day without any restrictions in restaurants for the men and women, active duty and veterans of the armed forces. I’m sure many may think I’m ungrateful just the opposite, I am grateful for the service provided by veterans.
